Mailchimp
Mailchimp is where marketing email is sent from. Mocca keeps the Mailchimp audience and the Contacts’ consent flags in step: unsubscribes flow both ways, and opted-in Contacts are added to the audience. The rules are in The email audience.
Fields
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Enable Mailchimp | Tick to switch the sync on |
| API Key | Your Mailchimp API key. Required. |
| Audience (List) ID | The id of the audience Mocca keeps in step. Required. |
| Webhook Secret | A long random value you choose, used to sign Mailchimp’s webhook calls. Needed only for instant updates. |
| Drift Threshold | A number. When one nightly run fixes more opt-outs than this, Mocca writes a Mailchimp drift entry in the Error Log so someone looks into why so many were out of step. Empty or 0 alerts on any fix. |
| Read Only | While ticked, Mocca reads from Mailchimp but sends nothing (see below) |
Read Only
Tick Read Only to see what the sync would do before letting it change the audience. While it is on:
- Mocca still reads the audience and updates Contacts from it (an unsubscribe in Mailchimp still sets Unsubscribed on the Contact).
- Every change Mocca would make in Mailchimp (unsubscribing a member, adding an opted-in Contact) is written to the log instead of being sent.
- Mocca does not move its bookmarks, so when you untick Read Only the next run sends everything it held back. Catch Up From, if shown, also stays until that run.
How it stays up to date
- Instant updates: Mailchimp calls Mocca when someone subscribes, unsubscribes or is cleaned.
- Nightly reconcile: Mocca compares the audience with the Contacts, applies opt-outs both ways, then adds opted-in Contacts that are new or changed.
After a switch-off, the nightly reconcile picks up from where it stopped. Catch Up From on the tab clears after the first clean run with Read Only off; see Switching a vendor off and on.
If Mailchimp’s webhook deliveries fail for a long time, Mailchimp may disable the webhook. After switching Mailchimp back on, check it in the audience’s webhook settings.
